On a night when the team celebrating Homecoming had to sit on the visitors’ side of the field and the only scoring of the first half came off the feet of the opposing teams’ field goal kickers, it was only fitting that the game between Memorial and Northbrook was decided on a fumble.

Finally, Stratford could take a deep breath before the final snap.
That’s because the Spartans gave perhaps their best wall-to-wall effort of the season Saturday night, cruising to a three-touchdown lead by halftime and routing MacArthur 45-14 in a District 19-5A game at Tully Stadium.
Junior running back Rodney Anderson had something of a breakout game, rushing for 72 yards and scoring a 3-yard touchdown in the first quarter but catching six passes for 100 yards.
Stratford’s (5-2 overall, 3-1 district) previous four wins were by an average of 8 points, but the Spartans sprinted to a 14-0 lead by late in the first quarter and 28-7 at halftime.
“We played pretty well for four quarters and that’s really the first time we’ve done that this year,” said Stratford coach Elliot Allen, whose team lost 19-14 to district leader Eisenhower on Oct.

Cypress Falls running back Shane Turner had four Division I offers entering Thursday night's nationally-televised game against Cy-Fair at The Berry Center.
After rushing for 195 yards and four touchdowns in addition to a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, Turner's phone may be ringing non-stop from here on.
Turner upstaged Cy-Fair running back Sam McGuffie, a Michigan commitment, by running for touchdowns from 3, 35 and 69 yards and taking the second-half kickoff goal-line to goal-line.

Memorial jumps to big lead, holds off MacArthur
Davis Miller passed for 139 yards and a touchdown and ran for 49 yards and a score to power Memorial to a 21-13 win against MacArthur on Friday night in a District 19-5A game at Thorne Stadium.
Miller scored from a yard in the first quarter and threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Daniel Neumann midway through the second.
Bo Aycock returned an interception with 3:03 left in the second to give the Mustangs a 21-0 lead.
Miller was 8-of-12 passing.
Justin Reese had a 5-yard touchdown run shortly before halftime and Izael
Lewis had an 8-yard touchdown run for MacArthur (2-4, 2-1).
Reese was 9-of-13 passing for 131 yards and an interception.
Explosive Cy Falls hands Strake Jesuit first loss
The statistics from Cypress Falls’ 55-32 win at Strake Jesuit on Friday night suggests the Eagles’ coaches might not be warm and fuzzy over the defensive effort.
That the Eagles allowed four touchdowns and 360 yards leads to the wrong conclusion.
A week after Cypress Ridge quarterback Russell Shepard torched the Eagles for 341 rushing yards and five touchdown runs of 40 yards or more, Cy Ridge held previously unbeaten Strake Jesuit to 10 points through three quarters to open a 31-point lead and undoubtedly drop a few jaws in the District 17-5A game.

When you break down the success that these three teams have had, it runs hand-in-hand with a top-rated defense.
Crusaders poised to challenge for 17-5A title
If the Strake Jesuit football team has to ride a “little team that could” moniker to a strong season in District 17-5A, so be it.
The Crusaders’ roster numbers only 41, considerably less than the likes of district rivals Cy-Fair, Cy Falls and Cy Ridge.
But the Crusaders don’t think they’re executing brain science at the corner of Bellaire and Gessner.
