      The Houston area is well-represented in the Big 12 Conference and especially in the South division, which features Baylor, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech.  These six schools have about 650 players on their football rosters.  The state of Texas has produced 479 of those players, with the Houston area alone accounting for 20%.

The Cy-Fair Bobcats are coming into the 2007 season after a successful campaign last year that ended in the Regional Semi-finals falling to the Pearland Oilers. Losing 18 starters to graduation, the Bobcats are in much better shape than one might expect.

       As thousands of coaches, fans, parents, and athletic directors poured into the JW Marriott Wednesday night for the Touchdown Club of Houston 42nd Annual IW Marks Touchdowner of the Year Dinner, all who attended had a feeling this was a special night. On this night, not only was the Touchdown Club honoring one of Texas’ top football players of the late 1960s, but they were also going to announce the 2007 Preseason All-Greater Houston Team.

The Westside Wolves are gearing up for the season, as former offensive coordinator Mark Byrd has stepped up in the ranks and will be serving as head coach. After only one year at Westside, Byrd will be taking the place of Coach Lance Carter, who has moved out West to Katy ISD as the head coach of Mayde Creek.

              Georgetown, a team that was not chosen by most sports writers to finish in the Final 4, came to College Station Friday and left Saturday as the new 7-on-7 State Champions with a 41-24 victory over Stratford at Kyle Field.  The Eagles’ high-flying attack was just too much, as they scored nearly every time they lined up offensively.

College football prospect Andrew Luck has given a verbal commitment to Stanford University.  Luck, an incoming senior quarterback at Stratford High School of the Spring Branch Independent School District in Houston, led the Stratford Spartans to a 10-2 record in 2007 and a District 19-5A championship.  He is both excited at the prospect of attending one of the nation’s great academic institutions and relieved that the recruiting process will be winding down.    “First of all, I would like to thank my high school coaches and teammates for getting me this far,” Luck said.
