To this point, I’ve covered what criteria should be considered when choosing a cheerleading camp and why going to camp is so important. Now, let’s take the guess work out of the whole situation by giving you some comparisons of top choices.

I was able to speak with someone in each organization represented to ask some questions and get the details that will help make your decision a little easier.

>From Universal Cheerleaders Association, we spoke with Daniel Uselton.

AC: Where is your territory?
UCA: “Our camps are all across the nation and internationally as well. We have camps on nine-hundred major university campuses.”

AC: How many camps do you have going on this summer?
UCA: “2,500.  Not including private camps.  For private camps, we send instructors out to the squad’s location.  This is great for teams that don’t want to travel.”

AC: Which is your most popular camp?
UCA: “The four day resident camp.  The most popular camp to attend in Texas is held at Texas A&M.  There are five camps at that location, scheduled for this summer, with anywhere from four hundred to one thousand students.”

AC: What is the biggest benefit of going to a UCA camp?
UCA: “After attending a UCA summer camp, you’ll be one hundred percent game ready.  If you had to cheer the day after camp, you’d be ready to go.”

AC: What distinguishes a UCA camp from any other?
UCA: “Perfection through evaluation.  At UCA, every team has a Private Coaching session each day with one of our highly trained instructors, and each night they have the opportunity to be evaluated on their progress.  This opportunity for them to continually improve, and our talented staff, are what really sets us apart.”

AC: What is the most coveted award you give for a team?  Individual?
UCA: “The Leadership Award because it’s voted on by the other teams at camp, so it’s peer recognition.  As for the individual awards, All-Star cheerleader.  This includes recognition at the camp and an invitation to travel to London or Houston, depending on age, and perform in a parade with other All-Star cheerleaders.”
