The 21st Annual Eric Heitmann Katy Tiger Golf Scramble Tournament teed off Thursday at the Weston Lakes Country Club. The Katy Booster Club and sponsors held live and silent auctions to raise money for the Katy High School Athletic Program. Part of the proceeds will be given to eight senior athletes for their outstanding leadership and commitment to the sport.

The recipients of the scholarship submitted applications and were chosen by a committee.  "We were not only looking for good academics and athletics but good kids and role models," said Mitch Fralick, the Booster Club President.

Last year, the event raised $20,000, and this year they hope to surpass that number and raise $30,000 for the program. The event had several community and student volunteers to make the day a success.

"A lot of great support from the community carries over into an event like this, with 50 to 100 volunteers, and the sponsors here today, they cannot be overlooked," said Katy’s head football coach, Gary Joseph.

Many Katy athletes were present at the event, as volunteers and as players. The volunteers helped with food and drink distribution on the course, served as caddies, helped with banquet preparation, and anywhere else they were needed throughout the day. The student golfers were able to compete with their coaches and their supporters on the golf course and raise money for their fellow Tigers.

The day of golf closed with a dinner for all involved, including awards and recognition for the top golfers and distinguished members of the community, and the winners of the silent and live auctions claimed their winnings.

With the Katy Tiger community present and the support of all the sponsors,  the tournament was a success for Katy High School athletics.
