Frequently Asked Questions
How and when was The Athlete's Connection formed? The Athlete's Connection launched in August 2006. Owner and executive editor Lisa Sinclair saw a need for more substantial coverage of all varsity-level high school sports in the Houston area. Since its founding, The Athlete's Connection has covered football, volleyball, cross country, field hockey, water polo, basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, rugby, tennis, wrestling, lacrosse, track and field, and many other athletic events for public and private high schools across the Houston area.
How is The Athlete's Connection funded? Our company is funded primarily by revenue from advertising and sales of photos and videos from the events we cover. We donate a significant portion of the proceeds from all sales back to the school districts from which our sales originate (i.e. a portion of proceeds from Katy ISD events is donated to Katy ISD). Therefore, support from the community is critical to the success and ongoing operation of our site.
How does The Athlete's Connection determine which events to cover? Our main coverage area currently includes Districts 15-5A, 17-5A, 18-5A and the Aldine ISD portion of 19-5A in addition to the western portion of Houston ISD and several private schools. Events featuring teams from those districts are our priority, but we strive to include as many teams as possible from other UIL districts in the area, as well as TAPPS and SPC schools. We make coverage decisions based on the staff we have available.
How can I get my team on your coverage schedule? We determine our coverage schedule well in advance of the events. Due to the number of events we cover, the amount of staff required and press pass policies at area athletic facilities, changes to the schedule are not easily made on short notice. When we receive a request for coverage with enough advance notice, we will consider the event when planning our schedule. However, due to the number of requests we receive and the sheer volume of athletic events taking place in our area, we can never guarantee our availability for any one event. Please notify us of your event at least two weeks in advance. Call us at (713) 339-4400 to find out if your team is on our schedule.
What can I do to help ensure coverage for my team? There are a number of options for getting information about your team on The Athlete's Connection. Click here to learn more.
Does The Athlete's Connection offer filming services for parents seeking game films and/or highlight videos for their children? Absolutely! Many athletes, parents, booster clubs, and civic leaders representing a variety of athletic interests have contracted with us to film games, tournaments, skills sessions, banquets, and other events. The people who request our services do so for a number of reasons, ranging from recruiting videos for athletes seeking a college scholarship offer to memorabilia videos for local athletic organizations. See our Services page for more information.
Can The Athlete's Connection produce a highlight video for a recruit? The Athlete's Connection is sponsored in part by College Ball or Bust, a Houston-based firm that specializes in highlight video production and a number of other recruiting-related services, including player websites, admissions and NCAA Clearinghouse assistance, etc. While The Athlete's Connection is happy to provide game footage for recruiting videos, the actual video production is performed by College Ball or Bust's recruiting analysts and video editors. A number of options, including customized packages, are available. Call (877) 245-4400 or visit www.collegeballorbust.com for more information.
