The Memorial Mustangs and Stratford Spartans completed a portion of their matches yesterday on a slick court tennis dual. Included in these matches was a doubles battle between Memorial sophomores Adam Putterman and Jonathan Chang and Stratford’s Tim McWilliams and Thansi Skafidas.

Putterman and Chang came out strong with a powerful offense as each capitalized with strong serves and hard hits.

“We had great placements on our shots,” explained Putterman. “Chang and I grooved very well on our hits.”

The Spartan boys had a tough match and just couldn’t seem to keep up with their opponents dominating force. However, the weather may have had a little to do with Stratford’s sluggishness on the court.

“With all the rain we didn’t have much opportunity to practice,” said McWilliams.

In any event, the Memorial boys defeated the Spartans in two sets (6-2, 6-0). Match play for singles will resume on Friday at Memorial.
