Greater Houston Summer Water Polo Jalapeno League kicked off its first week of competitive action with the boys playing four games each  at Baytown Sterling Friday morning.

This marks Week No. 1 of five weeks of competition between five different Houston area teams. Sterling and Clear Lake High Schools are the sites for the first three weeks of water polo tournaments. Strake Jesuit will be the site for the remaining two weeks.

Teams on hand Friday were: Bay Area Dorados (Clear Creek HS), Cy Fair WPC “A” (Cy Creek HS), Dirty Bay Aquatics (Baytown Sterling HS), Lone Star WPF (Clear Lake HS), and Jesuit WPC (Strake Jesuit).

Dirty Bay vs. Cy Fair
The morning warmed up with these two teams facing off. Dirty Bay came out and completely dominated this game with a 16-4 victory.

Dirty Bay players Matt Chapa and Gabrielle Chapa were the games top scorers.

Lone Star vs. Bay Area
Lone Star came out and scored two goals within the first minute of play to set the tone for a 9-4 victory over Bay Area. The Bay Area boys were down 6-1 at half and battled back, but the lead was too big to recover.

Dirty Bay vs. Jesuit
Dirty Bay’s Zayne Belal scored on an acrobatic shot, and then stole the ball to score another en route to a 15-8 victory over Jesuit. This helped Dirty Bay hold a commanding 12-2 lead at halftime.

But Jesuit did not give up. The SJ boys scored back-to-back-to-back goals and closed the Dirty Bay lead. Even though there was a blast of points, Dirty Bay still swam away with the victory.

Stevie Ray and Belal were the leading scorers.
