Day two of the Houston ASA Championship Tournament took place at Burroughs Park on Saturday. With players ranging from 10 to 18 each of the fields were filled with softball talent. The games were timed with each game lasting an hour and a half and then as time expired play would stop and the final scores would be recorded.

Field 1 saw the Shocks take on the Texas Hawks. The first runs came about 45 minutes in when the Shock's started connecting with the ball and taking advantage of the Hawks errors. Shock's Kelsey Hamilton and Leslie Buxton put two runs on the board for their team to put the pressure on the Hawks to play catch up.

The Hawks responded with Rachel Heidemann hitting a hard grounder past second base allowing two of her teammates to run home. Jessica Arana hit a single and with a player being struck by the ball the bases were loaded. Jessie Bross made room for herself on a bag as she hit in Heidemann and Lindsey Hensen hit a sacrificed bunt to to allow Arana to run home.

The rest of the game was a battle back and forth with the Shock's trying to beat the game clock and score and the Hawks trying to hold their lead. The Hawks were successful and ended the game with the win and a final score of 4-2.

Hawks' head coach, Marty Pierucci said, “The team is made of girls from all over, Woodlands, Dobie, Spring Branch, and we get a new ball club almost every year so I look forward to seeing the competition that comes out to play.”

The game that followed on Field 1 was the The Mystixx vs. Cy Fair Blaze. With the clouds looming over the field the players concentrated on playing an hour and a half worth of softball before the rain came down. The Blaze put the first two runs on the board with the players being hit in by a single. When the bats were back into the Mystixx hands the first pitch was taken and the run was scored as she made her way around the bases.

The Blaze added one more run to the board and as the rain started coming down the score was 3-1 Blaze lead.

Stay tuned to the Athlete's Connection for the winners and the results from the tournament.
