The Shake & Bake Championship games started Sunday at Lutheran North High School.  Games started at 8:00 am for the High School Division and the final game for third place started at 4:00 pm. With both courts being occupied the 1st place bracket started first to determine who would make it to the championship game later in the day.

In Pool A the Houston Hotshots Morris played the Pool D winners the Houston Hotshots Russell where the Hotshots Morris team won to play the Houston Insiders in the 1st place Championship game.

The 2nd place bracket saw a game between Pool A’s Hi Performance Hoops and Pool D’s Kingwood Lady Tigers. Hi Performance advanced to the 2nd place Championship game to take on the Houston Hotshots Dixon who beat Hotshots Kyle.

The 1st place Championship game between the Hotshots Morris and the Houston Insiders was set to be a tough match up. Both teams dominated each game they played in throughout the weekend with their cohesive play and deep benches.

The Insiders put the first points on the board but the Hotshots answered back dropping in three’s from behind the line. With the Hotshots full court press the Insiders had to use their speed to get up the court and break through the defense. On the other end of the court the Hotshots were getting second and third chances on their shots, which helped give them the lead going into the half with a score of 46-28.

In the second half the Hotshots continued to out rebound and dominate the Insiders. The Hotshots extended their commanding lead and became the Champions of the Shake & Bake Tournament beating the Insiders with a final score of 74-42.

The Hotshots’ Brianna Hypolite, Allie Messimer, and Brittney Griner were all leading scorers in the game.  Nae Carter and Diamond Ford were leading scorers for the Insiders.

The 2nd place bracket was being played on Court 2 between Hi Performance Hoops and the Houston Hotshots Dixon. Hi Performance took an early lead but the Hotshots came back strong to bring the half time score within one, Hi Performance leading 22-21.

The second half was battle back and forth with each team staying within a few points of each other. Finally with less than two minutes in the game the Hotshots landed themselves on the line to make the free throws and take the lead. Hi Performance shots would not fall in the end giving the Houston Hotshots Dixon the win with a final score of 56-51.

High scorer for the Hotshots was Gakeia Council and Savanna Buck for Hi Performance, both players scoring 15 points.

The Shake & Bake 12 & 13 Under Division winners were the Miracle Basketball Matthews taking 1st place and the Houston Hotshots Hatch won the 2nd place bracket.
