The 2007 Adidas Cy Fair Classic jumped off Friday at Cy Fair, Cy Falls, Langham Creek, and Cy Springs High Schools. With more than 90 teams competing, the courts and stands were full of top-notch competition. The players traveled from Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and all over Texas to show their skills and make an impression on the college scouts that were watching.

The Classic will take place all weekend with the final championship game being played on Sunday. With games starting at 8:30 am, the competition only got hotter throughout the day.

Court 1 at Cy Fair saw a match up between the Houstonians and B.R. Amazon Terry. Amazon put the first points on the board, but the Houstonians answered back with a steal and an easy lay up, followed by two more from a missed free throw. With 7:39 to go in the first half the bad weather outside showed its face by blacking out the entire gym. When the lights returned, the action picked back up with more intensity.

Both teams started connecting with their shots, and the Houstonians took a 29-21 lead going into the second half. Amazon began full court press but they were unable to slow down the Houstonians, giving them a 65-57 win.

Houstonian head coach Dale Vanwright commented on his team's performance.   “We played very well, and I’m very proud of the team. They played through all the fouls and kept attacking, never letting up. There is a high level of competition here this weekend, and it is preparing us for Atlanta next weekend.”

The Houston Insiders Blue and Team TG Purple hit the hardwood on Court 2, playing their first game of the day. The score went back and forth in the beginning with both teams playing aggressive defense but the Insiders struggled against TG’s full court press. TG began to pull away, allowing them a 35-19 cushion entering the second half.

The Insiders began to rally in the second half, going on a run. With TG becoming more lax, the Insiders took advantage of their turnovers and started scoring on their fast breaks, closing the gap on the scoreboard. TG’s press again became a factor for the Insiders trapping them in the corners and regaining possession of the ball. The Insiders could not catch up in the end making the final score 63-49, TG Purple.
