The 2007 Adidas Cy-Fair Classic continued at Cy Fair, Cy Falls, Langham Creek, and Cy Springs High Schools, where the tri-state area girls basketball players 14 and under to 18 and under competed to play in tomorrows championship game for the 2007 Adidas title.
Cy Falls
The Tulsa Giants faced the League City Starz. The Starz took the lead at the start of the game showing their impressive shot from the perimeter, while using their post players wisely under the basket. The Lady Giants had many turnovers but re-grouped and made their way back to take the lead by five going into the half.
With scouts from several colleges watching, the Starz could not get a shot to go in the second half, the Lady Giants went on a 14-0 run in the final five minutes to win the game with a final score of 44-30.

Tulsa’s 5’10 forward Maylisa Johnson.
Baton Rouge Amazon-Dennis squared up against the Lady Rockwell Jackets in one of the higher skilled pools. While the Lady Jackets knocked down critical shots outside the perimeter, blasting the three-ball, the Lady Amazon’s dominated in the paint.
34-31 Baton Rouge lead with 13 seconds left, Rockwell’s Guard Shelby Adamson hit a three pointer to tie the game at buzzer before heading into halftime.
As the second half began, the Lady Amazon’s came back on the court with more intensity and hunger, taking the lead with 10 minutes left in the game. While the Jackets started missing critical shots, the Amazon continued to play their game inside and outside the paint.
In a final attempt to get back in the game, Rockwel came within eight points. The Amazon would take the win with a final score of 68-60.

With the college scouts watching, a high profile game between the Houston Heat and the Texas Lady All Stars was set to be a fight to the finish. The Heat took an early lead but the All Stars’ defense was able to create turnovers and allow them to follow their shots on their end of the court. With the score staying within points of each other the teams battled back and forth for the lead. The clock showing 3 minutes finally gave the All Stars their first lead of the game and able to hold it with the first half ending 28-27, All Stars.
The All Stars started the second half in full court press but the Heat hustled up the court and moved the ball around to find their open players. Both teams ran the court finding the outlet keeping the score close once again. The girls fought through their fatigue keeping the fast pace tempo of the game. This proved to be the key as every point in the last minutes had to be earned. The Heat had and held onto the lead as the clock flashed 00:00 winning the battle with a final score of 60-54.
Leading players for the Heat were Brittany Hudson, Tamara Torru, and Tolu Omotola. The All Stars’ Audriana Garcia, Marissa Ashton, and Sierra Austin.
Langham Creek
Saturday’s first Division III Pool game started at 8:30 a.m. between the Houstonians and the Houston Insiders Blue. Although the sun had just risen the competition on the court was completely set. The Houstonians set the tempo of the game early on taking the lead going into the second half.
The Insiders exploded into the second half trying to play catch up. With their shots starting to fall the Houstonians relied on their second and third chance shots to keep the lead. The Insiders narrowed the lead but their efforts fell short giving the Houstonians the win with a final score of 70-49.
James’ Ft. Bend Stars hit the court next against the North Texas Lady Heat. Several minutes into the first half the Heat finally put the first points on the board, making their two free throws. Ft. Bend pressured the Heat with their full court press, which proved to be effective as they held a 27-17 lead closing the first half.
Both teams came out aggressive hitting the boards and taking the ball into the lane. Ft. Bend extended their lead by going hard to the hoop and welcoming the contact as they the ball dropped into the rim. The Heat started a full court press that was broken through by Ft. Bend’s speed and passing. As the clock ran down Ft. Bend held onto the ball to claim their first victory of the day with a score of 64-37.
Ft. Bend’s head coach, Jason Bibbs, “We played alright, we need to work harder on our defense. There is strong competition and teams here especially from Dallas and Houston.”
