UH hosts Gulf LC Champs

While the summer may be associated with the doldrums of inactivity and
off season conditioning for many athletes, the season significantly
impacts competitive swimming.

This weekend the University of Houston Women's Swim Team provided the pool at the Campus Recreation and Wellness center for swimmers of all ages to attend the 2007 Gulf LC Champs Time Trials Meet. Meet officials have restricted the gathering to a long course meter format that allows swimmers to submit only meter times from USA Swimming Meets for entry seeding.

The strict atmosphere legitimizes the meet as an important sporting
event for swimmers who might not otherwise receive recognition for
their athletic prowess.

It also gives individuals who have a hard time participating in team sports to join the mainstream, such as home school swimmer Bethany Noack. I like the sport and I'm good at it. I'm not good at anything else. Noack said through a chuckle.

Swimmers like Noack will use the meet as an opportunity to post a
strong time in order to qualify for their respective postseasons, even
the TAGS state championship.

After a break from preliminaries in the afternoon on Saturday and
Sunday, meet finals will be held at 6:30 p.m. with the fastest times
from the previous races.
