The Ganders flew east on Saturday to take part in Robert E. Lee’s Football Booster Club Golf Tournament at Evergreen Point Golf Course in Baytown. The golf tournament was put on by Baytown Lee’s league football Booster Club to raise money for the Gander football program.

This years Booster Club revived the golf tournament after several years of it not taking place. Booster Club member Vickie Hanson, “Parents wanted to get involved with the Booster Club again and this tournament has exceeded everything we thought it would be.”

With over 15 teams hitting the course, Ganders from every generation teed off to win the awards that were given out at the dinner that followed the day of golf. Coaches, students, parents, alumni, and community members not only participated in the golf tournament but with over 30 whole sponsors and contributors they were able to bid in silent auctions to raise additional money for the football program.

Head Football Coach, Richard Olin, “We have an opportunity to be a good team we just have to work hard and do the right things.”

Baytown Lee has already been picked to win the district so not only are their avid football fans behind them but their Gander Booster Club. The Booster Club will continue to support the team with t-shirt sales, feeding the team after home games, and putting on the annual football banquet.

Chairman of the Golf Tournament, Chet Thiess is hoping that the tournament will continue to build and with everybody enjoying a day on the green it looks like the Booster Club has many more successful events in their future.
