Week 9 of the HGA Junior Golf Tournaments teed off all over Greater Houston on Monday. Tournaments were held at Sugar Creek Country Club (Sugar Land, TX), Northgate Country Club (Houston, TX), and The Club at Falcon Point (Katy, TX).
At Falcon Point over 120 golfers ranging from 14 to 18 years of age finished their nine-week event schedule, where the top 20 boys and the top 3 girls will receive Fidelity Ranking Points.
The first place finisher in the boys division will receive 150 points and the 20th place finisher receives 5 points. The 15-18 girls division winner receives 25 points and the 3rd place gets 5 points.
The golfers have been accumulating points throughout the nine weeks to go towards an end total. The top 40 boys from 14-18 and the top 20 girls 15-18 will be able to compete in the HGA Tournament of Champions in Humble, TX next week.
The first tee time at Falcon Point started at 7:30 a.m. and along with the rising temperature the competition heated up throughout the day. Some of the top golfers from Katy, Spring Branch, Cypress Spring, La Porte, Sugar Land, Fulshear, Richmond, Baytown, Channelview, and other surrounding areas have been able to compete against the best and expand their skills for their upcoming school season.
“In order to participate in the HGA Junior Golf Program each junior has to successfully complete a HGA Certification Clinic. Once a junior has completed the clinic they are now members of the HGA Junior Golf Program” according to hga.org/juniorgolf.
These dedicated athletes will continue to participate in tournaments for the remainder of the summer and the Athlete’s Connection will be bringing you all your golf news.
Stay tuned for the results from this tournament.
