The track programs from Houston-area schools Fort Bend Hightower, Clear Brook, and Cypress Falls were all represented in the IAAF World Youth Championships held in Ostrava, Czech Republic on July 11-15.

Athletes from these schools ran for Team Youth USA and participated in
this international track competition. In the Medley Relay event, Team
USA captured the gold in the boys and girls categories.
For the boys, Isaiah Sweeney of Hightower ran the first leg. Joining Sweeny was Kenneth Gilstrap, William Wynne, and Danzel Fortson (a Dallas, Texas native).

The team made a come-from-behind win in the final stretch with Fortson,
at the anchor leg, beating out Japan to take the gold at the finish
with a time of 1:51.34.
The girls division featured Clear Brook’s Erica Alexander on the anchor leg of the Medley Relay. Team USA (Chalonda Goodman, Ashton Purvis, Ryann Krais, and Alexander) won with a time of 2:05.74, which beat the Jamaican team that ran 2:06.77.

Cy Falls’ Blake Shaw took ninth in the 1500-meter run running a time of 3:53.36.
All in all, Team USA won the meet winning seven golds, four silvers,
and three bronzes for a total of 14 in the 2007 IAAF World
Championships.
