Championship play is Saturday for both men and women at the three-day Strake Jesuit Water Polo Invitational. Winners of Friday's match-ups played this morning at Strake Jesuit's divided pool.

Congratulations to Sterling's girls and boys teams who won 1st place in the Invite.

girls Sterling vs Clear Brook (14-5)

boys Sterling vs Strake Jesuit (17-8)

Earlier action

Clear Creek v. Sterling (Girls)
Clear Creek took on Sterling in the first game. Sterling came out strong scoring four unanswered goals. But before the six-minute period was over, Clear Creek closed the gap, scoring two. As soon as the ball was in play in period 2, Sterling scored in the first 30 seconds, then again 15 seconds after that.

Play continued with Sterling scoring the majority of the points each period. Final score, Sterling-14 Clear Creek-6.

Clear Brook vs Cy Creek (Girls)
The Wolverines from Clear Brook faced off against the Cy Creek Cougars. With both teams wanting this win to advance to the Championship game the aggressive play came out early. Clear Brook took command of the game with good drives and ball movement taking and holding onto the lead. The Cougars’ struggled to get clear looks at the net but found their stride and began attacking the ball and getting shots.

Cy Creek was unable to surpass Clear Brook giving them a 4-2 win. Ashlee Fabling led the Wolverines with two goals and Sheila Mattley and Diana Sepulveda each had one.
Cassidy Clover and Hannah Dorey put Cy Creeks’ points on the board.

Clear Creek v. Sterling (Boys)
Clear Creek took on Sterling in the men's first game of the day. Sterling dominated offensively, scoring three unanswered goals immediately. Clear Creek's goalie, Patrick Mahon, worked hard saving a few more goals Sterling was aiming for. Sterling continued to kill winning 13-6.

Sterling's head coach contributes both wins to “hard work.” There is a year-round polo club where these kids play hard and train hard. Their coach said that's what makes the difference.

The Sterling women will play Clear Brook for the championship, Saturday at 1:30 and the Sterling men will play Strake Jesuit for the championship at 2:30.

Sterling played Strake Jesuit last week and won, although Sterling's coach said that Strake has been playing very well and are expecting a good game. The Sterling women have not played Clear Brook this year.

Strake Jesuit vs Cy Creek (Boys)

Strake Jesuit jumped right into the action with the Cougars from Cy Creek. Both teams scored quick goals at the start of the game and that set the tempo for the remaining quarters. The score stayed close throughout the game with neither team being able to take more than a two-point lead.

With the teams battling for the win, Strake’s goalie connected with Mark Strickland for the outlet pass and Strickland found the back of the net for the win. Strake’s final score was 7-6.

Stake Jesuit’s Head Coach Thomas Walker, “We did really well, it was a close game and we got lucky in the end. We made a few mistakes with passing and we need to control the ball but I think we did well.”
