Former Cinco Ranch standout quarterback J.J. McDermott is already making an impact for the New Mexico State Aggies in his freshman year. McDermott has earned the spot as the backup quarterback behind returning Chase Holbrook. J.J. beat out redshirt Matt Parsons and Baer Philipbar for the backup position.
Although coach Hal Mumme likes to rely less on true freshman, he is expected to use four of them in the upcoming season.
McDermott passed for over 2300 yards and 21 touchdowns in his senior season for season for the Cougars.
