The Athlete’s Connection names its 2007 ‘Big Man on Campus’ feature. This edition showcases athletes from District 19-5A. After more than 10 game tapes, AC Sports Writer A. Vital has compiled the best of the best.

19-5A “Big Man on Campus”

Stratford High School:
QB Andrew Luck (6-4, 215)
This one was a no-brainer. Luck, a Stanford college commit, lit up nearly every scoreboard last year throwing for 2,926 yards and 27 touchdowns. On the rushing end, he had nearly 700 yards and 10 touchdowns.

He and the Spartan team open up season play against Cy Fair this Thursday. Get ready this one should be a good one.
Next in line: DL Jimmy Burge

Aldine Eisenhower High School:
DL Rod Davis (6-2, 300)
With a combination of size and power, Davis is a major force on the Eagles’ D-line. After recording more than 80 tackles last season, he returns with a goal of playoffs in mind. Davis has also given a verbal commitment to Texas A&M.

The Eagles begin play against Humble this Friday.
Next in line: QB Kenneth Guiton

Aldine High School:
QB Darron Thomas (6-3, 205)
Thomas is a solid athlete and leader for a tough Mustangs squad. He threw for over 1,000 yards and rushed for over 500. Thomas, who is an early pledge to LSU, will definitely be one of the many keys to Aldine’s success.

The Mustangs will take on North Shore this Saturday.
Next in line: OL Daniel Campbell

Aldine Nimitz High School:
QB Michael Thomas (5-11, 185)
The cougar athlete proved last year that he is one of the top players in the state. Thomas rushed for 1,000 yards and had nine touchdowns. His 4.4 speed has caught the attention of more than 10 Division I programs.

Nimitz will face Alief Elsik this Saturday.
Next in line: DB Ray Anthony Long

Houston Memorial High School:
DB Bo Aycock (6-3, 195)
Aycock finished last season as the Mustangs leading tackler (100+). He recorded three interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns. Look for him to go both ways this season. He too has earned some Division I looks, but hasn’t given a verbal.

Memorial will use Week 0 to scrimmage Kingwood.
Next in line: DB Michael Ratterree

Aldine MacArthur High School:
LB Isaac Lewis (5-10, 205)
Lewis was all over the field last year as a junior. He led the team in tackles (110) and is the team’s leader returning in rushing (11 yards). This year he will likely play the same role for the Generals.

MacArthur will travel to Galveston this Friday to take on Ball High School.
Next in line: Javis McQueen.

Spring Woods High School:
LB Greg Burks (6-2, 200)
Burks is a player who just flat out makes plays. Though he plays linebacker now, many programs on the next level see him as a safety. He is one who will definitely make his presence known.

The Tigers open up season play against Cy Creek on September 6.
Next in line: LB Jerry Singleton

Northbrook High School:
Coach Craig Cripps
Whoa. I know you are probably saying, ‘Why is he on here?’ Well, Cripps has taken the Raider program and instilled a newfound level of confidence in the players and community. So yes, for 2007, Cripps is the man.

The Raiders open up 2007 against Milby this Saturday.
Next in line: RB Eric Banks

Look for The Athlete’s Connection at Greater Houston area games.
