Kinkaid hosted Houston Christian in a match that went five games on Tuesday night. After game one, serving proved to be the key to winning the match.
The Falcons came out scoring in game one, taking advantage of being on their home court. Up four points, they held the lead, as Mason Bashan served five consecutive points to increase the Falcon lead to nine. Kinkaid finished the game ahead, winning 25-18.
Houston Christian took an early lead in game two, up three points. Kinkaid tied it at five, but Houston Christian's serving cut the tie and pushed them ahead by five. The Mustangs held on to their lead, and Sydney Dixon served the game-winning point as the Mustangs tied the match with a 25-12 win in game two.
Each team scored three of the first six points of game three. But Kinkaid took off from there, grabbing a four-point lead. The Mustangs caught up, as Meredith Shields served four points to take the lead. Scoring continued back and forth with multiple tie scores, but Houston Christian pushed ahead and won the game 30-28 to take a 2-1 lead heading into game four.
Kinkaid wanted a game five, so they came out scoring early. They increased their lead to 14-6 before Houston Christian's Shields served seven consecutive points to bring the Mustangs within one, but Kinkaid did not let up, winning game four 25-19 and tying the match at 2-2.
Game five was evenly matched, as the Falcons and the Mustangs were scoring back and forth. Kinkaid then took the lead and maintained it to win the game 15-9, and the match 3-2.
“Last time we played [Houston Christian], we were down 2-0 but came back and won the next three. We knew today would be a competitive game,” said Cindy Gough, Kinkaid’s Athletic Director.
Conference play begins Saturday for the Kinkaid Falcons.
