Coming into the 2007 season, many were unsure on how much success the Cy Falls football team would have. After losing more than 60 players and returning only one starter, the Golden Eagle team would need key players to step to ensure success. One of those players is the AC Spotlight Athlete Kolby Gray.

The junior quarterback led his team to a 57-32 victory over Cy Creek in their District 17-5A opener.

“It feels great to start out 1-0 in district play,” Gray said. “Cy Creek came out hard, but we

pulled together in the second half to get the win.”

Gray’s numbers show that he is definitely worthy of being the team leader. Through the air, he was 23-of-28 for 423 yards and four touchdowns. Gray also picked up another 36 yards on the ground and two more touchdowns.

Not only did the team earn the win, this performance (by Gray and team) actually set new school milestones.

“Everybody is breaking records,” Gray said. “We broke the team scoring record and the school’s passing record with the Cy Creek win. I think this season we are doing well because we are taking all of the negatives we hear and turning them into positives.”

But Gray credits his success to love of the game and leadership. When some of his teammates are down, he said he is there to pick them up.

“I think the main thing I bring to the team in leadership,” Gray said. “I bring the guys together and help them believe. Then, we just go out there and execute.”

And to go along with a strong game play, comes the notoriety. Gray is already being pursued by over ten Division I colleges including Florida, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, and LSU.

The Cy Falls team will take on Cy Ridge Saturday at 6 p.m. at Pridgeon Stadium.
