Broken wrist or not, Katy running back Aundre Dean returned with a vengeance Saturday night.
Dean rushed for 150 yards and three touchdowns as Katy shut out crosstown rival Katy Taylor 48-0 in a District 18-5A match-up Saturday night.
Throughout the first quarter, Katy spread the ball to their receivers and running backs
connecting on many occasions, yet it was not enough for a touchdown.
Katy got close enough in the red zone to attempt a field goal
but the kick was short. Both teams had showed up defensively which lead
to a scoreless first quarter.
Tigers QB Bo Levi Mitchell took the field and lead his team on a quick drive that resulted in a touchdown caught by senior WR Brian Rowe. Katy Tigers went on to score three more touchdowns before the half. Scoring was Aundre Dean (2 rushing touchdowns), and Joey Fuda on a catch for a 27-0 lead.
As the Tigers and the Mustangs rushed the field for the second time, both teams were amped to get back to second half play.
Katy Taylor received the ball at kick-off. Phillip Supernaw,
the Mustangs QB, attempted to rally his team for a scoring drive but came up short. The Tiger defense was all over the ball causing easy four and
outs.
Dean ran for a 53-yard touchdown, his final score of the game.
“I am a running back,
that’s what I do, you give me the ball and I just run," Dean said. "My O-line
(offensive line) opened up the middle for me and it allowed me the
chance to score.”
Dean also commented on his commitment to UCLA.
“Everything fell into place," he said. "When you find that true place (where you
belong) you just feel it.”
Said Katy coach Gary Joseph: “Our goal is to
keep on progressing and get better to head to state. We’ve got a ways
to go but right now we are getting ready for the game against Hastings
next week.”
