The men of Episcopal hosted Kinkaid in a volleyball match that was not an SPC game, but counted just the same. With a pretty decent sized crowd before them, the men began play.

In game 1, Episcopal’s Mark Callier hit a kill to start the scoring. Alex Robertson got to the serve position and gave the Knights an early lead, serving eight consecutive points. At that point, Episcopal led 10-3. The Knights really broke out from there, scoring seven more to Kinkaid’s two. But in the next eight points, Kinkaid scored five of them, bringing the score to 20-10. Episcopal’s Jack Hurd hit a kill to end the game, 25-12.

Game 2 was the Episcopal Knight’s game. They came out and scored ten points to start. Kinkaid finally got on the board, but Episcopal continued to rule the court. The game ended with Episcopal winning 25-5.

Graham Davis served Episcopal’s first three points in game 3. Kinkaid came out cutting the Knights’ lead in half, 4-2. Kinkaid stayed right with Episcopal as the score crept to 7-5. And then to 10-7. Episcopal then doubled its three point lead. The Knights continued to score, bringing it to 24-14. Hurd and Davis had a big block to give Episcopal its third game and the match victory.

Bobby Dingenary, Episcopal’s head coach, took over the men’s volleyball program three years ago and said Wednesday night, “We’ve really turned a corner.”

When Coach Dingenary was asked about the strengths of his team, he answered, “Charlie Hurd is one of the best athletes in the SPC.”

Coach Dingenary said of all the teams in the SPC, Episcopal has beaten all but three teams: St. Mark’s, Trinity Valley, and Greenhill. Episcopal will continue SPC play as they face Kinkaid next week for the counter match.
