The Northbrook Raiders faced the Aldine Mustangs at Tully stadium for what turned out to be a windy evening. Northbrook (3-2) came into the game looking for its first district win, while Aldine (0-5) searched for their first win of the season.
Northbrook won the toss to a game that started out slowly but picked up as the clock ran down. Aldine's offensive time of possession tired the Raider defense. Aldine maintained possession for most of the game.
The Mustang's offense had 19 first downs for 413 yards, 300 of which were on the ground. Mustang QB Darron Thomas rushed for 180 of those 300 yards passed for 112 yards and had one touchdown by air. The Mustang defense held the Raiders to just 165 total yards, 111 rush yards, 54 pass yards and one 29 yard td pass. Northbrook was limited to just eight first downs the entire game and was scoreless through out the first half.
Although Northbrook’s offense hadn’t shown up for the first half of the game, the defense stepped up and kept them alive.
Up by only three at the half the Mustangs and the Raiders went back into the locker room hoping to rally up and put some points on the board and that they did.
Aldine by three at the half came back hyped and motivated scoring 21 second half points. Aldine defeated Northbrook 24-7. Coach Bob Jones spoke about the win after the game saying “the win does a lot for our confidence. I don’t think they (Aldine) believed that Northbrook was going to play them as hard as they did. Coach Cripps has done a tremendous job with them and they played our butts off. Our strategy was to come in the second half and score.”
Mustangs QB Darron Thomas was perfect to senior WR Tyson Williams going 6-6 for 46 total yards. The second top rusher of the game was Otis Wiley. Wiley rushed the ball 14 times for 99 yards and a touchdown.
