The Pasadena Memorial Mavericks went into Friday’s night match up with the South Houston Trojans coming off three shutouts in a row. They knew if they wanted to make it four in a row they would have to find a way to contain South Houston’s Milton Howell who rushed for over 200 yards last week.

Not only did the Maverick defense contain Howell, they totally shut down the Trojan offense holding them to under 200 total yards on the night with just 8 first downs as Pasadena Memorial defeated South Houston 27-0.

Howell was able to rush for 106 yards on the night but the Mavericks were able to keep him from the long runs that have led too much of South Houston’s success thus far this season.

While the Maverick defense was turning back the South Houston offensive effort, their offense executed a well planned ground attack that resulted in over 350 yards rushing on the night. When Trojan quarterback Dylan Adamek wasn’t running the ball himself he was handing it off to one of his two running backs, Bo Snelson and Phillip Tovar, who rushed for 68 and 93 yards respectively.

The Mavericks Adamek turned in a stellar performance as he rushed for 206 yards on 17 carries with 2 touchdowns. He also passed for 67 yards on 6 of 9 passing. Snelson came into the game with over 800 yards rushing on the season and South Houston saw to it that he didn’t find a way to have a big night.

“The really keyed on our top back so we really had to count on the other guys tonight,” Pasadena Memorial coach John

Snelson said.

The Mavericks had to settle for a Juan Lozoya 36-yard field goal at the 5:54 mark of the first quarter and led 3-0 lead going into the second quarter. After a 55-yard touchdown run from Adamek and another Maverick field goal, they took a 13-0 lead into the locker room at the half

In the second half the Mavericks defense gave the Trojan offense fits and their offense ran the ball with impeccable efficiency. As a result, the Trojans offense that scored 43 points just last week was shut out for the first time all season.

“Our offensive line was just able to dominate and that allowed us to run the ball really well tonight,” said Pasadena Memorial quarterback Adamek.

It was an extraordinary total team effort for Pasadena Memorial who hopes to keep up their winning ways over the next two weeks in order to set up a battle for first place in district 22-5A on November 1st as they host the North Shore Mustangs.
