The nationally-ranked Cy-Fair Bobcats hosted the Cy Springs Panthers Tuesday night in a District 17-5A game. The last meeting between these teams gave Cy Fair a 3-1 victory over the Panthers and as history has proven, the Bobcats would have to fight for this win as well.

In Game 1, the Panthers took the early lead, but Cy Fair slowly made up ground and took advantage of Cy Springs miss communication on the court to win 25-18. Cy Fair showed why they are the district leaders in game 2, scoring 10 unanswered points and holding Cy Springs to only 9 points.

Cy Springs used game 2’s defeat to spark some momentum in game 3. The Panthers put the first points on the board and started to pull away from the Bobcats. With a six point lead Cy Springs looked as if a game 4 was inevitable but the Bobcats had other plans.

Cy Fair’s blockers created a wall that the Panthers struggled to get around and as each ball landed on the Panthers side the Cougars found their rhythm and took control of the game. Cy Fair’s Cambrey Oehler came up with two big kills to make the score 24-22 and then middle blocker, Nneka Ogwumike put the final point on the board with a huge block to give the Cougars a 25-22 win.

“We always have to play at the top level and play like we are playing for a championship,” Cy-Fair head coach Donna Benotti said.

Cy Fair’s Oehler and Chiney Ogwumike led both teams with 11 kills each and Briana Tolbert led the Panthers with 6 kills.

The Cougars' next game is against Cy Creek on Friday. The Panthers will host Langham Creek.
