The Cypress Ridge Rams celebrated their Homecoming and their undefeated district record Friday night beating the Cypress Creek Cougars, 46-21.

Rams running back Hasan Lipscomb scored three of his five touchdowns in the second half and finished with 209 yards rushing.

Lipscomb and the Rams (6-1 overall, 4-0 District 17-5A) made their presence felt from their first possession. After quarterback, Russell Shepard rushed to the 32 yard line for the first down, a pass to Brandon Smith in the end zone put the first six points on the board after Cougar Josh Smith blocked the PAT.

Cy Creek could not reciprocate the touchdown and gave the Rams the ball back on their 21-yard line. Cy Ridge moved the ball within inches of the goal line, and Lipscomb powered his way in to extend the lead to 13-0. The Cougars quarterback, Jacob Thompson answered right back, keeping the ball and running in a 33-yard touchdown to close the first quarter, 13-7.

The second quarter did not see much action until the last two minutes. Russell connected with T.J. Shirey for a first down on the 40. Then, from 32 yards out, the handoff went to Lipscomb, who he found the holes for his second touchdown. With only 48 seconds left in the half, Thompson fired the ball to Hayden Krc for a 77-yard touchdown pass to close the gap within five entering the third quarter.

The Cougars wasted no time in the start of the third to take the lead. Thompson kept the ball on the first play and ran down the sideline for a 78-yard touchdown, shaving only 22 second off the clock. After solid Cougar defense, Cy Creek regained possession. From the 27-yard line the Rams’ defense put the pressure on Thomson and Cy Ridge’s Royce Hill took advantage, coming up with the interception and finally being brought down on the 21-yard line.

Lipscomb finished the drive with a 26-yard touchdown run and gave the crowd an encore with another 10-yard run into the end zone after Curtis Slater snatched another Cougar pass out of the air.

The Rams entered the fourth quarter leading 32-21 and only 17 seconds into the fourth quarter, Lipscomb finished Cy Ridge’s 47 yard coverage in 6 plays with his final touchdown run from 18 yards out. Cougar Josh Smith tried to give his team a push with an interception but once again Slater replied with another interception that led to back-up quarterback Shirey, who took over for the injured Shepard, sealing the win with a 21-yard touchdown run around the outside.

“T.J. Shirey came in and really did a great job running our offense and Lipscomb really picked up the load,” Cy Ridge coach Gary Thiebaud said. “The team really stepped in and picked it up.”

Cy Ridge’s Shepard passed for 92 yards in 7 completions for 1 touchdown, and Shirey passed for 39 yards on 4 completions.

Cy Creek’s Thompson passed for 144 yards and 1 touchdown and rushed for 126 yards for 2 touchdowns.
