Blake Shaw

The Athlete’s Connection has named Cypress Falls senior Blake Shaw as our Sterling Bank Athlete of the Week. This recent University of Southern California (USC) track & field commit helped lead his football team to a 49-37 victory over the Cy Fair Bobcats last week.

The nationally-televised game held no added pressure for Shaw. “[It] was my night to be open because they were keying in on the other guys, and I took advantage of it."

Shaw finished the game with 76 yards on five receptions, three of which were touchdown catches, adding to his season total of 375 yards and five touchdowns.

Blake not only shines on the football field but also crosses his talent over to the track and to the unbeaten path of cross-country. Most players would use Saturday as a day of rest, but for Shaw it’s on to his next sport.

He is a 4-year cross-country letterman, and, due to the overlapping football season, he has had to compete in cross-country meets taking place early Saturday mornings.

“I have to wake up every morning and run by myself, and that’s pretty hard, especially when you have football practice after school,” he said. “It’s pretty fun, and it’s a challenge,  [but] I just take it, and try to do the best I can.”

Shaw is hoping to repeat as district cross-country champion this week and make a return trip to the state football championship game in December, before putting on the crimson and gold at USC next fall.
