Katy and Mayde Creek’s last district game took place Tuesday night, where the Rams hosted the Tigers. Katy is coming off a hard-fought 3-2 win over Elsik and carried the momentum over to the Mayde Creek game, beating the Rams in 3 consecutive games.
The Tigers put the heat behind every kill and serve, giving the Rams a challenge to return the ball in game one and two. Katy took a 10-point lead early in game one and ran away with the first win, with a final score of 25-13.
Mayde Creek again struggled to get past Katy’s blockers and powerful kills in game two. After an injury to Mayde Creek’s senior setter, Megan Hernandez, the Rams turned it up a notch and scored five unanswered points to narrow the gap and end the game down 25-11.
Game three was a whole new ball game for both teams. The Rams and Tigers stayed within points of each other and the Rams fought to the last point. The Rams’ middle blocker, Jasmine Brown, kept her team within striking distance, coming up with big blocks and kills, but the Rams were eventually worn down by Katy’s kill leader, Cady Mercer, and Jessica Acord put the final point on the board. Katy swept all three games and won game three with a final score of 25-21.
The Tigers will begin bi-district play on October 30 against the Cypress Falls Eagles.
Katy head coach Karen Paxton said, “We are going to prepare hard, and work on our weaknesses.”
Katy’s Mercer led both teams with 14 kills, and Brown led the Rams with 8 kills. |
