Cinco Ranch volleyball finished out their winning season with another win against Hastings Tuesday night in 18-5A’s last district game. The Cougars, who clinched the district title last week, beat the Bears 3-0.

Cinco Ranch began game 1 scoring first. Ali Becker had a kill to give the Cougars a 6-3 lead. Eleanor Lavigne of Hastings held the Cougars to their three-point lead with a kill. Then, Ladavia Hardman served an ace for Hastings, narrowing the Cougar lead to only two points. But Cinco Ranch took increased their advantage with a kill from Mary Beth Allcorn. Later, the Cougars would grab an 18-8 lead after a key block from Allcorn and Kate Choyce. The Cougars continued to score, and Lindsey Miller's game-winning kill gave Cinco Ranch the 25-13 victory in game one.

Cougar Brittney Pembleton started game two with back-to-back kills to give Cinco Ranch an early lead, but Hastings would come right back with two points of their own. Miller led another Cougar charge, but Mimi Aghimien and Ashley Byers blocked combined for a big block to pull within 3, at 10-7. The Bears' momentum would not last long, as Cinco Ranch dominated the rest of the match, winning 25-16.

Game three was tied at three, when the Cougars went on a 7-2 run.  Later, with a 14-8 Cougar lead, Kaylon Alexander served back-to-back aces followed by another Becker kill to put the game out of reach.  Hastings’ Garkeiva Council served an ace to pull her team within eight, but Cinco Ranch did not give in.  The Cougars won game three by a  25-15 margin to sweep the match.

Becker and Miller were the kill leaders with 10 each.

Up next for the Cougar volleyball team?

“We start the playoffs next Monday or Tuesday. We have a meeting tomorrow morning to see who we’re playing and when and where,” said Cougar head coach Tammy Laurence.

When asked about the playoffs and how she expects the team to perform, Laurence said no team is safe.  “Any given day, any team can be beaten," she said.  "I just hope when we show up for our match that night that we’re on and that we’re ready to play.”
