After facing Cypress Falls in regular season play, the Katy volleyball team knew what they were getting into with Tuesday night’s bi-district match up at Cypress Springs. The Tigers’ first meeting with Cy Falls went in favor of the Golden Eagles.

But, in a game that went all the way to a complete five matches, the Tigers pulled off a come-from-behind 20-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-18, 17-15 victory.

“It was extremely tough, we knew Cy Falls was going to be a tough competition coming in,” Katy coach Karen Paxton said. “We played them earlier in the season and they beat us, so this was an opportunity for to step up and play harder.

All of the matches stayed fairly close and both teams capitalized on the others’ mistakes. In the first set, Katy battled back after being down by five to win 25-20. But Cy Falls did not go away quietly. Led by outside hitter Kendall Cleveland, the Golden Eagles snuck by Katy with a 25-23 score.

With a tie game going into No. 3, Katy found the rhythm needed to pull out a 25-18 victory, but Cy Falls turned around and took Match 4 to force the full five.

Katy outside hitter Matte Haack was one of the big motivators when the game was on the line. She spoke on the experienced garnered from a game like this.

“I think it was a great job like all of the newcomers who have not been in the playoffs yet it was a great game to win and get under their belt,” Haack said. “We knew we could not take them lightly because they are a very strong team.”

And Cy Falls definitely showed strength in Match 5. Early in the match, it seemed that many of the points were going in favor of the Golden Eagles. They jumped out to and led by as many as five with a 13-8 advantage.

Cy Falls’ Aubrey Bratcher, Jazmine Green and Cleveland all had hot hands recording 10 total kills and three blocks. After Katy’s Jessica Acord blocked a Cy Falls spike, the Tigers were ignited.

The Tigers’ Sandra Adeleye and Cady Mercer came through with critical kills late in the game to seal the win
