Morton Ranch hosted Cinco Ranch for a district swim meet Thursday.
With 24 events scheduled on the heat sheet, 1 meter diving got it started.
With six dives each, Chelsea Dennis, Allison Bynum, Josh Mason, Randy Helmcamp, Jordan Bittner, and Rob Sailors dove for Cinco Ranch. Cathryn Mothersbaugh and Amber Hughes dove for Morton Ranch.
The 200 Yard Medley Relay was the first swim. Cinco Ranch’s team of Anne Lanier, Jackie Hodges, Elizabeth Buchner, and Rachel Jablonski took first with a time of 1:57.23. Cinco Ranch’s Thomas Brisson, Cheyne Hermes, Jason Buckert, and Michael Peron swam in first for the boys with a time of 1:44.31.
The 200 Yard Freestyle was won by Cinco Ranch’s Anne Lanier (2:02.14) and Morton Ranch’s Cole Marinko.
The 200 Yard IM (Individual Medley) was Cinco Ranch’s swim as Stefania Rossi (2:17.32) and Jason Ting (1:58.26) both took first.
The Cougar’s Jackie Hodges swam the 50 Yard Freestyle in 25.98 for first place. Eric Kaestner of Morton Ranch took first with a time of 22.14.
The 100 Yard Butterfly was next as Elizabeth Buchner (1:03.55) and Jason Buckert (56.68) won it for the Cougars.
Elizabeth Chen swam a 58.88 for Cinco Ranch in the 100 Yard Freestyle. Morton Ranch’s Eric Kaestner swam it in 52.41.
The longest race of the night was the 500 Yard Freestyle. With a time of 5:24.91, Cinco Ranch’s Stefania Rossi placed first for the girls and Cheyne Hermes place first for the boys with a time of 4:57.89.
The 200 Yard Freestyle Relay was next. Cinco Ranch’s Elizabeth Buchner, Elizabeth Chen, Jackie Hodges, and Rachel Joblonski swam as a team for a time of 1:45.00. Thomas Brisson, Diego Laris, Michael Peron, and Jason Ting from Cinco Ranch place first with 1:33.32.
Heather Menzie of Cinco Ranch and teammate Thomas Brisson (54.61) placed first in the 100 Yard Backstroke.
Jackie Hodges (1:13.02) and Jason Ting (1:01.63) swam in first for the Cougars in the 100 Yard Breaststroke.
Finishing the meet were teams in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay. For the girls, Cinco Ranch’s Elizabeth Chen, Stefania Rossi, Lauren Sutton, and Anne Lanier placed first with 3:57.11. For the boys, Morton Ranch’s Sean Newhouse, Cole Marinko, Cody Marinko, and Eric Kaestner placed first with 3:25.50.
“I think it went pretty well. We had some best times. We’ve been training really hard, so I thought they’d come a little tired, so to have some best times was really nice,” Cinco Ranch head coach Christie Patterson said.
Early in the season, Coach Patterson talked about the goals the Cougars have for the rest of the year.
“The long term goal is to do really well at district. Win the girls and hopefully give the Taylor boys a run for their money. Try to qualify as many people for the regional meet and get as many people to the state meet. But right now it’s just trying to work on technique and pacing and use this opportunity to get better at racing.”
