Cinco Ranch's girls basketball dominated throughout Monday night's game at Westside and ran away with a 76-43 win.

“We shot the ball well, if we start off like that and we get them down then it’s off to the races,” Cinco Ranch head coach Eric Bartlett said.

The Cougars (4-4) wasted no time gaining a comfortable lead, running the floor and hit the boards giving themselves second chances to lead 25-5 after the first quarter. Cinco Ranch’s aggressive play led them into early foul trouble but the Wolves were unable to convert from behind the line.

Westside increased its full court press in the second quarter but they still could not find an answer to slow down the Cougars. Cinco Ranch point guard Kellie Ros found her open players and gave them time to let the three-pointers rain down.

The Cougars led 48-17 at halftime.

Rushed offense and turnovers plagued Westside in the third quarter. While the Wolves were struggling the Cougars worked the ball around the key to find the open shot and found the outlet for easy fast break points. Cinco Ranch widened the gap going into the fourth quarter ahead 64-23.

Coach Bartlett cleared the bench in the fourth quarter and the Cougars showed that they had the depth to hold onto the win. However the Wolves started to find their rhythm as they connected with their shots and put the needed pressure on the Cougars. Westside held Cinco Ranch to only 12 points but came up short with a final score of 76-43.

Cinco Ranch’s Kelsey Clinch led both team with 19 points and Briana

Gilbreath scored 15.

Westside's Donna Dike led the Wolves with 11 points.

Cinco Ranch hosts Dobie Wednesday. Westside plays Sam Houston at Delmar Tuesday.
