Cy-Fair won its first home dual of the 2007 season, 56-15 against St. Thomas on Wednesday night.

With several seniors leading a team full of first-year varsity wrestlers and the seniors leading the way, Cy-Fair got seven wins by pin.

"Our first year guys really did well and the seniors did what you would expect from the seniors," Cy-Fair coach Jeremy Lippert said.

Usman Anjum (103) faced Cameron Fontenot, pinning him within the first two-minutes of the match, scoring six points for the Bobcats. Aaron Samia (152) wrestled Tyler Tribble for six minutes and won, getting the Bobcats four points and earning 14 individual points. John Demis (189), who wrestled up a weight class, pinned Michael Mahoney.

"I told Demis, Samia, and Anjum, I don't even coach you guys because I don't have to," Lippert said.

C.J. Taylor (112) earned four points for Cy-Fair by defeating Ernie Forzano. Kellin Davis (140) pinned his opponent, Sam Mason, earning the Bobcats another six points.

Rookie Nick Yapp (130) was the Bobcats' one loss, but he fought his opponent Andy Fontenot for three rounds without a pin.

"Nick Yapp was our one loss but it was his first varsity match. He did a real good job of getting off his back. It's one of the hardest things to do," Lippert said. "We've been practing getting off your back, a lot and it helped tonight."

Other results were:
Jake Ekster (119) pinned Connor Lynch earning six points.
Zachary Cooper (125) pinned Faiz Gulamani earining six points.
Alex Chang (145) went three rounds with Matthew Fote and earned three points for the Bobcats.
Derek Wolz (160) pinned Kolby Griffin earning six points.
Ben Lang (285) pinned Will Carey earning six points.
Keith Fishbeck (171) went three rounds with Christian Hernandez, earning three points for the Bobcats and his first home win.

St. Thomas earned its points from one win and two forfeits.

Cy-Fair will participate in the Cypress Ridge Tournament Friday and Saturday.

"I think we can win it but it's going to depend on whether we wrestle at our level," Lippert said.
