The Katy Tiger wrestling team defeated Seven Lakes 54-31 Thursday night, taking all 15 by pin.

Kuhn (140) pinned Denver in round 3. Clifford (152) pinned Tajian in two minutes. Langan (160) pinned Yao in 45 seconds. Schieuelbien (180) pinned DeLeon in round 2. Garcia (189) pinned Freedman in round 1. Mashi (215) pinned Johnson in round 2. Perez (125) pinned Simnett in 30 seconds. Polasak (130) pinned Coolman in 20 seconds. Houy (171) received six points by way of forfeit from Seven Lakes.

Seven Lakes pinned four Tigers and won two matches, one in overtime, by points.

Connor (145) pinned Graud in round 1. Dilbert (285) pinned Dickens in round 2. Garza (103) pinned McMillan quickly in round 1. Bark (112) went three rounds with Mecum and gained 19 points in the match, giving the Spartans four team points. Fuu (119) went four rounds with Mecum, getting the first points in round 4 for the win, giving the Spartans three more points.

Tiger coach Vincent Lowe was pleased with his team and their flexibility.

“We had to juggle our lineup around a little bit to make sure we had all 15 weight classes covered," he said. "So we moved some guys up that were wrestling weight classes they didn’t belong and they really came through, either by winning or saving us some team points.”

Katy will participate in the Cypress Ridge tournament Friday and Saturday.

“Cy-Ridge has a 32 team field as I understand it," he said. "It’s always a tough tournament and Cy-Ridge puts on a nice tournament. Our guys are seniors but they are still young as wrestlers. It’s early in the season and we’re just trying to develop from here. So hopefully you’ll see some of our guys in the medal rounds.”
