Seven Kinkaid players scored in just the first quarter Thursday night, allowing the Falcons boys basketball team to flash a depth of which they're particularly proud and giving Concordia Lutheran a glimpse of what it couldn't stop.

Ten players scored to help Kinkaid rout Concordia Lutheran 81-39 in the first round of the Wilder Private School Classic at The John Cooper School.

Kinkaid (5-2) led 21-10 after a quarter and pulled away in the second when it created offensive mismatches from frequently switching Concordia defenses. Concordia threw a full-court man-to-man look at the Falcons, then switched to a half-court defense allowing the post players to take over.

Ryan Gill scored 16 points, Zach Stoler 14 and Jared Lowry 11 for Kinkaid, which more than recovered from Tuesday's 83-62 loss to St. Pius.

"We played 13 guys tonight we feel are pretty athletic and know what's going on and can do some things," Kinkaid coach Scott Zimmerman said. "If we can wear some teams down by using those guys, I think that can be to our advantage. We're gonna try it."

Lowry and Mike Atmar fueled the second-quarter run inside, and Gill complemented them with an all-around game featuring several layups and a 3-pointer. Kinkaid went on a 17-3 run to open a 44-21 lead two minutes before halftime.

"We've always tried to press (opponents) hard at the beginning and wear them down so that by the fourth quarter we can do more," said Gill, a 6-foot-3 senior. "We have a deep roster and everyone can play. It doesn't matter who gets the points."

Gill hit a runner, Atmar a tip-in and Lowry made a running basket off a steal to push the lead to 52-29 three minutes into the second half. The game never got closer than 19 points after that; Kinkaid's lead steadily increased the rest of the way.

"We got the ball into Michael when he had a little guy on him and we got the ball in to Jared when he maybe had a slower guy out top," Zimmerman said. "We found those mismatches working as a team and to our guys' credit they started knocking down some shots to pull away."

The Falcons will face John Cooper and Shekinah Radiance in pool play games Friday.

Drew Janszen led Concordia with 14 points.
