Swimming action at Houston Westside

Houston Westside High School hosted swimming action that featured teams from Memorial, St. Thomas, Duchesne Academy and Westside Thursday night. For personnel reasons, Duchesne and St. Thomas collaborated teams for the competition.


This meet displayed dominance by Westside’s girls and Memorial’s boys. To start things off, the Westside girls 200-yard medley relay team (Carmen Lindmoen, Sarah Stapp, Pauline Sklenar, Paige Lolley) took first to open the night’s competition with a time of 2:00.77.

Memorial’s Chris Valach, Harrison Robinson, John Wagner, and Emil Kylamarkula took No. 1 in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:45.48. In the 200-free, Westside’s Jodie McDonald and St. Thomas’ Michael Wagner earned first place.

The girls from Memorial went on the win other individual races such as: 200-yard IM (Katie Piefer, 2:50.31), 50-yard free (Beth Ballard, 28.1), and the 100-yard free (Sarah Blackwell, 1:10.94).

St. Thomas’ Daniel Reyes (200-yard IM, 2:46.09) and Tom Kelleher (50-yard free, 26.71) both took the top spot in their respective events. Another notable was Westside swimmer Lindmoen was broke the school and pool record in the 500-free with a time of 5:27.04.
