Reliant Double-Header
The Cinco Ranch Cougars will face another formidable opponent this week as they take on the Westside Wolves at Reliant Stadium on Saturday 5 p.m.
The Wolves come into the game averaging over 400 yards of offense behind quarterback Michael Goodnight who has passed over 2100 yards on the season. However, the Cougar defense has been stellar holding opponents to 235 yards per game.
This will be a good test for the Cougar secondary who has not seen a passing offense quite like the Wolves this season. Not to hold anything back from the Westside running game that has been very effective with running back Semaj Washington who has rushed for 17 touchdowns and 1200 yards for the season.
The Wolves will need a defensive scheme to defend a diverse Cinco offense. The Cougars have the ability to pound the ball on the ground with the Frankie Lugo/Garrett Forward combination which allows Cinco to frequently catch opponents off guard with the long ball.
This game will be an exciting match-up as the Cougars are looking for their second playoff win in school history.
The Stratford Spartans will match up against the Cy-Falls Eagles at Reliant 1 p.m. preceding the Cinco/Westside game.
Andrew Luck and Co. will look to outscore the Eagles who are averaging just over 31 points per game. The Spartans are averaging just under 30 points a game. This will be a game of two high-powered offences battling it out to see who will advance to the next round.
These teams have over 8000 yards on the season between the two. Eagles quarterback Jeff Welch passed for 152 yards and rushed for 82 last week against Alief Taylor to give Cy-Falls a 47-28 victory. The Spartan defense will have their work cut out for them trying to contain Welch, as will the Eagles trying to contain Luck.
