Teams from around Houston are competing in the Fort Bend/Alief ISD Outback Boys Basketball Tournament. Over 30 teams are competing in this three day tournament to determine the Outback Champion on Saturday. The Championship game will take place Saturday at 7:30 at Wheeler Field House.
The Athlete's Connection was there for all the action between two Fort Bend teams, Elkins and Bush. Bush took the lead from the start of the game and was able to hold off Elkins in a 50-49 victory.
Bush led the majority of the first half but untimely turnovers led to Elkins comeback in the first two quarters. Elkins capitalized on Bush's turnovers by hitting three pointers from the perimeter. With six seconds left on the clock Elkins hit a three at the buzzer to tie the game up 27-27 at the half.
Elkins took the court in the third quarter hitting crucial shots but Bush was not going to stay quiet for long. With great defense and drive, Bush went on an 8-0 run to finish out the third quarter. Elkins made an attempt to close in on the score at the end of the quarter but Bush answered right back by knocking down the threes.
Elkins came within three with twenty seconds left in the game and a Bush turnover gave Elkins hope. After a thirty second timeout, Elkins regained possession of the ball and scored. Now only down by one with three seconds left, Bush in bounded the ball and turned it over, but Elkins did not have the time to get a shot off losing by one with a final score 50-49.
