Many fans are probably not used to a basketball game on a Monday night, but at the Cinco Ranch gym supporters were present to watch a great game. This was the setting to a tough, close, and physical game that had fans on the edges of their seats until the final buzzer.
Cinco Ranch and Westside faced off in what proved to be a nail biter. After several lead changes, the Lady Wolves pulled off a stunning victory 53-52.
“The win was great, but as whole we need to improve,” Westside coach Troy Gillespie said. “We will have our work cut out for us in practice.”
But both Westside and Cinco Ranch will not have that luxury too soon. Because of the Thanksgiving holidays, both teams will play early games tomorrow. According to Gillespie, this repetition may take a toll on the girls.
“This will have more of a mental than physical effect on the girls,” Gillespie said. “With back-to-back games, the girls’ minds tend to wander. We try to focus even through times like these.”
Leading the way for the Lady Wolves was Sydney Colison with points. Sonya Thompson added another10. They are set to play Sam Houston Tuesday at Delmar Stadium.
For the Lady Cougars, Stefanie Gilbreath led all scorers with 15 points. Her younger sister, Brianna, had 14. The Cougars will battle Dobie Tuesday, Nov. 21.
