As we enter into the Thanksgiving holidays, many are planning trips to visit families and loved ones. Though this still may be the plan, the Katy and Northbrook girls basketball teams hit the hard wood Tuesday night.
The Lady Tigers ,with a sizeable 79-15 victory, dominated the entire night. With a firm full court defense, the Tigers kept constant pressure on the Lady Raiders.
“I was really pleased with our back-court defense,” Katy coach Dean Darrow said. “Everything starts with defense and I felt that made the difference tonight.”
Because of strong defense, Katy was able to sprint down the court and convert several buckets in transition. That seemed to be the difference maker as the Tigers went into halftime with a 41-9 lead.
Darrow explained how this along with team cohesiveness helped pull everything together and earn a team win.
“We really did a great job of communication out there,” Darrow said. “I was happy to see the girls play unselfish basketball. They had their eyes open in transition and got the ball to an open teammate.
“No one tried to hog the ball tonight.”
Leading scorers for the Tigers was forward Shelandra Missouri with 21 points. The No. 2 scorer was guard Savanna Buck with 17. Many of Missouri and Buck’s points were transition baskets.
For the Raiders, Ashley Reyes was the leader with six points. Stella Sanchez added another four.
Katy will face another Spring Branch area school Saturday at Spring Woods at 1 p.m.
