Westside hosted a tri-squad meet between Episcopal and Mayde Creek Wednesday night.

The first match was an intense match-up between Westside the fourth ranked team in the state and Episcopal who entered the meet 13-0. Unfortunately for Episcopal Westside proved why they are top in the state with consecutive pins. Westside finished the match with a score of 56-28.

Westside went on to defeat Mayde Creek in the final match of the night.

“Both Mayde Creek and Episcopal are good scrappers,” Westside head coach Ron Baker said. “You can see that they are up and coming programs and that’s why we wanted to duel them.”

The second match was between Episcopal and Mayde Creek. Episcopal started this match determined not to put another loss on their record. Episcopal won five weight classes until Mayde Creek finally put points on the scoreboard. However Mayde Creek would only be able to win two more as Episcopal ran away with a 57-13 win.

“We picked up our intensity a bit,” Episcopal head coach Steve Leisz said. “All we can do is look to get better and wrestling against Westside you can kind of match yourself and see where you are at. They are one of the best teams in Texas and now we know what we need to improve on.”

Westside next meet is against Highland Park and Creekview at Coppell on Friday.
