To be an athlete and to excel on the field of play is amazing. Many high school athletes are recognized for their superior athleticism, leadership qualities, and community service efforts. The thing that a great deal of people forget is that high school athletes are students first.

Regardless of how great an athlete is on the field of play, his or her efforts will go un-noticed if performance in the classroom is sub-par. “No pass, no play,” is a rule that many coaches and administrators enforce in order to give these high school student athletes the motivation to want to pass their classes.

When an athlete achieves success in the classroom, they should be praised and highlighted to the largest demographic possible. When an athlete has achieved this academic success while in season, their efforts must not go unnoticed.

Members of the volleyball teams from Aldine, Eisenhower, MacArthur, Memorial, Northbrook, Springwoods, and Stratford high schools were recognized and awarded Academic All-District Honors.
