After dominating most of the lower weight classes, the Cy Ridge wrestling team defeated Langham Creek 51-34 at their dual meet Thursday night at the Rams gym.

“We wrestled much better tonight,” Cy Ridge coach Tim Ray said. “It is the first time since we lost in the football playoffs that we have had a full team.”

In the weight classes 103 to 135, the Rams won by sizeable margins, pins, or technical falls. Jesse Martinez (103), Glenn Jackson (112), Tyler Lukes (119), Chash Heath (125), and Chris Warmack (135) all won by pin. Josh Smith, at 130, won by a 15-0 tech fall.

“I’m excited to have Tyler Lukes back he is at 119,” Ray said “He was fifth in the state last year at 103. Very impressed (1) 25 and my (1) 35-pounder. Chris Warmack did a great job. He is a little limited being deaf, but he is a heck of a wrestler.”

For the middleweight wrestlers, the Lobos had the upper hand. James Montefuso (140) and Edwin Pineda (145) both won by the 15-point tech falls while Randall Holloway at 152 earned a victory with a second-round pin.

After the Rams’ Khiry Karim won by pin in the first round, the Lobos went on to win back-to-back 171-pound Josiah Ramey and 180-pound Charles Wolo. Both won by way of pins. With the Lobos holding a 1-point advantage going into the 189-plus matches, the Rams pulled together to win the last three.

Jeff Rockenstein at 189 got the ball rolling with a first-round pin and 285-pound Tylor Walker finished things off with a quick pin.

“I’m very happy with my 189 (Rockenstein) and my heavyweight (Walker),” Ray said. “Walker won the last match in the first 20 seconds. We are happy to get our team together, though we still have a few guys out, but we should them ready for the Cy-Fair ISD tournament right after the break.”

The 215-pound weight class was won by Cy Ridge (Ismael Guzman) due to forfeit.
