The Stratford Spartans improved their record to 2-2 on the season with a 54-39 win over the Cy-Fair Bobcats.

The Spartans contained the lead throughout the game but the Bobcats were never out of reach. Stratford had a 32-22 lead going into halftime and increased their lead in the third as they held Cy-Fair to only seven third quarter points.

The game did not look promising for the Bobcats as they began fourth quarter play down 43-29. As it looked liked the Bobcats might make a little push with a couple of successful three pointers, the Spartan’s stepped up their offensive and defensive game and finished the Bobcats off.

“We are getting better every day,” said Stratford coach Mitch Hornsby.

The Spartans look forward to adding junior returning lettermen Andrew Luck and B.J. Griffin to the roster when the football team closes out their season. The addition of Luck and Griffin will add to an already stacked Spartan line-up that has a lot of maturity, as most of their players are seniors.

Hornsby looks to a few special seniors, Phillip Robins, William White, and Brad Daniel to really step up and play major leadership roles. Just so happens, two of the three were leading scorers for the Spartans on Tuesday as William White dropped 17 while Brad Daniel added 13.

“We are really going to need some leadership in the point guard position this season,” explained Hornsby.

The Spartans look forward to a few days off over the holidays and will come back next Tuesday to take a trip down I-10 to face the Katy Tigers.
