Houston ISD is hosting the 68th Annual Houston Jaycees/Reebok Basketball Tournament this Thursday through Saturday. The tournament includes over 30 HISD and greater Houston teams, taking place at Barnett, Butler, Delmar, and Regan High School.
“We’re real pleased this year it’s an exciting tournament, “ HISD boys basketball coordinator, Dave Hudeck said. “I think in the greater Houston area we have about a dozen teams that are highly ranked and a lot of them are from HISD that we are real proud of”
Several ranked teams and highly recruited players in the state are competing for the Championship title taking place Saturday 8:00 p.m. at Delmar. Teams including Madison, Yates, Wheatley, Cy Springs, Nimitz, and St. Thomas are in the top seeds.
“HISD basketball has been good for a lot of years so I guess this is just another good year for us, we expect that one or even maybe two of our schools will make it all the way to the finals,” Hudeck said.
The Cy Falls Eagles are the defending champions but they have stiff competition this year with the No. 1 seed, Cy Springs in their bracket.
The players hit the court Thursday afternoon and the teams started their three-day journey to the championship, some of the teams that are moving on:
Westbury defeated Westfield 62-59
