The Cypress Falls Eagles hosted the Katy Tigers Thursday afternoon. Both teams hit the court for the first time in about a week but the Eagles did not let that hold them back as they came out with the 53-46 victory.

“We were a little sloppy it looked liked we had the holiday blues, we’ve been off for the last 5 or 6 days,” Cy Falls head coach Jim Draudt said. “We hadn’t practiced and we just came out and played.”

It took the Eagles only a quarter to get back into their rhythm. After the Tigers jumped ahead with a five-point lead in the first quarter the Eagles began to turn up their defense to end the first down 12-8.

Cy Falls started the second quarter moving the ball around the perimeter and waiting for the open shot. In man defense the Eagles forced a turnover and Micah Leslay tied up the score at 14-14. Cy Falls guard, Kris Dao extended the Eagle’s lead, making five free throws and put the Tigers in the bonus. However Katy’s, Tanner Elenburg answered back with a three pointer and kept Katy within striking distance at the half with a score of 24-21.

The Eagle’s began the third quarter committing three back-to-back fouls. Fortunately for Cy Falls, Katy could not surpass the Eagles, only coming within one point enabling them to hold onto the lead and end the third leading 34-27.

Katy tried to claw their way back in the fourth quarter but their full court press could not slow down Cy Falls. The Eagles went on a seven-point run and forced the Tigers to foul in the last minutes of the game. With Katy in the bonus the Eagles cushioned their win from the free throw line.

“We got a little spurt there in the second quarter to get the lead but we just never really were in sync but we will take the victory,” Draudt said.
