Seven Lakes has go-to guy in Provost

When a new school comes into existence, building tradition is one of the primary things any program looks forward to. And with Katy ISD’s newest school, Seven Lakes, that is exactly the case.

The boys basketball team is making major strides. With that said, a leader usually emerges out of the group. And that is where senior guard Brandon Provost comes in.

The 6-foot-4 Provost is the team's leading scorer and is more than willing to hold down the leader title despite this being his first year on the varsity team.

“I didn’t really get a chance to play varsity last year so I was just excited to get back on the varsity level,” Provost said. “As far as being a leader, my coach told me my job is to score for the most part.”

And it is apparent that is what he does. Provost is averaging a little more than 22 points a game and the Spartans are experiencing some early season success. Seven Lakes is 13-6 after dropping two games in the Houston vs. The Nation tournament Thursday and Friday at the Aldine Campbell Center.

To go along with his scoring ability, Provost feels his game is becoming more and more complete.

“I feel like I am a relatively good shooter,” Provost said. “I can knock down the crucial shots when my team needs it. I also rebound well and average about 4-6 assists per game.”

With numbers like this, it’s no surprise that college recruiters are in pursuit of him. He has offers from Northern Iowa, Centenary, and the Air Force Academy.

And though he has not signed his letter of intent, he has already made his mind up about where he will be next fall.

“I’m verbally committed to Air Force Academy,” Provost said. “I am not really looking for any other colleges even though I have other offers. I chose Air Force because they said they really need a point guard and that is what I would like to be.

“So when they told me I could come in and be a point guard and that was pretty much it.”

Though Provost felt he and the Spartans’ game was not at a level he would have liked in his most recent games (Houston vs. the Nation tournament - 27 points in two games), the expectations for this season remain high.

“We are a foundation built on defense so for the past few games we haven’t been 100 percent, but we are trying to get back to it,” Provost said. “We are looking to go 10-0 in districts, go far in the playoffs, and try to play for a state championship.”
