Cy-Fair v. Langham Creek
Cy-Ridge v. Cy-Falls
Although Cypress-Fairbanks ISD is still on their holiday break their basketball teams are still hitting the hardwood. Langham Creek and Cy Ridge hosted Cy Fair and Cy Falls Wednesday afternoon for some midday hoops.
Cy Fair 62 Langham Creek 43
The Cy Fair lady Bobcats took on the Langham Creek Lobos where they controlled the pace of the game from the tip off. The first quarter belonged to the Bobcats as they went on several runs and ended the first leading 22-7.
The Bobcats continued to dominate in the second quarter. Cy Fair used their height to control the inside and come down with the rebounds. Fatigue became a factor at the end of the half for the Lobos and the Bobcats took advantage by creating turnovers and blocking shots. Cy Fair ended the first ahead, 32-20.
Langham Creek stepped back on to the court in the third quarter ready to make up some ground. The Lobos stepped up their intensity and became aggressive on the ball. However Cy Fair did not fret as they took their time on their shots and waited for the open player to hit the shot. The Lobos were able to get Cy Fair into the bonus at the end of the third but they still trailed 51-29 entering the fourth quarter.
The Lobos again started the fourth going hard to the basket and played physical. They initiated their full court press but they were unable to slow down the Bobcats. Cy Fair held onto their lead and finished the game with a 62-43 win.
Cy Fair’s Nneka Ogwumike led both teams with 24 points and Langham Creek’s Valerie Wood led her team with 14 points.
Cy Ridge 64 Cy Falls 55
The Cy Ridge Rams gave their home audience an exciting game Wednesday afternoon when they took on the Cy Falls Eagles. The Rams held the lead throughout the game but the Eagles made them work for every basket as they came within one point, but were unable to stop the Rams in the 64-55 victory.
The Rams came out firing in the first quarter. Cy Ridge worked the ball around the arc and had no trouble hitting from all over the court. With second shot chances and long three’s the Rams led 22-10 entering the second quarter.
The Eagles defense started to shut down the Rams shot and their offense began closing the gap. Both teams went basket for basket and Cy Falls was able to come within seven at the end of the first half, 33-26.
Cy Falls used their deficit to spark a comeback in the second half, the Eagles scored five unanswered points in the start of the half to come within one of the Rams. Unfortunately towards the end of the quarter they got into foul trouble and put the Rams on the line for every foul, allowing them to maintain a 47-41 lead.
The start of the fourth quarter had both teams in the bonus and only a minute in, Cy Fall’s entered the double bonus. Cy Ridge capitalized on their trips to the line, scoring ten points from the free throw line. The Eagles knocked down several three pointers but their efforts came too late as the Rams held the lead and finished with the win.
Cy Ridge’s Curtis Slater led his team with 14 points and Cy Falls’ Josh Struble led both teams with 21 points.
