Cy Fair ISD hosted a wrestling tournament all day Saturday and had more than 30 teams from across the region in attendance. This is the sixth year that the West Houston district has held the tournament and according to Cy Ridge coach and tournament organizer Tim Ray it has grown since its inception.

“I started this tournament six years ago when we first started wrestling in the district,” Ray said. “We started the Cy Ridge Classic and the Cy Fair ISD tournament. And now that we have the Berry Center, we moved it over here last year and as you can see, this is second to none. We have eight mats on the floor and plenty of room for everybody and there is not a bad seat in the house.”

Ray mentioned some of the powerhouse teams on hand including Klein, Klein Collins, Austin Westlake and Cedar Park, Cy Fair ISD schools, and private schools like Bellaire Episcopal.

Right before the finals, it was the Klein boys in the lead with 224 points. Katy Taylor (207.5), Klein Collins (193.5), and Austin Westlake (184.5) are behind them.

In the girls division, it was Klein Collins (112) with a slight advantage over Cy Ridge (110). Cy Falls (72) and Brazoswood (63) were in the third and fourth position.

“I think we have had a great tournament,” Ray said. “Best one so far.”
