Cypress Ridge overpowered Cypress Falls Thursday night in a final dual match before the 17-5A district meet next weekend.

The Rams' girls will be seeking their sixth straight district title Feb. 2 at the Merrill Center.

The girls defeated Cy Falls 52-6. The Lady Rams won five of the six matches, four by pin and one decision. The other 24 points came by way of forfeit from Cy Falls.

“This is a continuation of what we did this past weekend at the State Duals,” Cy Ridge coach Tim Ray said. “We tied Waller in the championship match and lost on criteria H in the tiebreaker. Now we have bigger and better things that we want to do. We really want to try and contend for the regional championship.”

The boys also beat Cy Falls and didn’t give up a single match, winning 84-0. Six of the matches ended with Cy Ridge pinning Cy Falls. The Rams got their other 48 points by forfeit.

“For the boys, we kind of had a “Come to Jesus” meeting last week,” Ray said. “We didn’t wrestle very well the week before the State Dual qualifier so we had to get a little refocused. Today we came in and we were focused. The kids wrestled well and wrestled strong.”

This weekend, Cy Ridge will compete in a final tournament at Morton Ranch. It will be a dual tournament for the boys and an individual tournament for the girls.

“We are looking for our boys to do strong and I’d be shocked if our girls didn’t win the overall team trophy,” Ray said.

The goal for the future of Cy Ridge is, Ray said, “Hopefully we’ve taken that next step and we want to be one of the elite programs, not just in Houston, but in the state.”
